My novel FIRESTORM is coming together nicely, my seven characters have grown, and face daily obstacles. I have come to know them well: 1. Carlie, my protagonist who has buried her feelings deep inside, not willing to come to terms with the loss of her parents and her dog Poppy. She has taken on the care of Rusty and Eddie, twin brothers and has come to love them both. 2. Taylor, a brave young man, honourable and fair, who has feelings for Carlie, but must first come to terms with his hidden past. 3. Mai-Li who appreciates Nature’s gifts, and has knowledge of edible and medicinal plants and fiercely protects Debbie. 4. Willie, a lost soul, angry and often mean, who likes Carlie, which causes friction between him and Taylor. 5. Rusty and Eddie- twin brothers, and only ten when they embark on their dangerous journey. 6. Debbie, a mentally handicapped young girl, and who thrives under the love and patience of Mai-Li.
Leaving Vancouver and going to the Interior was a life-saving decision made by the young adults. Inexperienced, facing the unknown, they are often forced to make choices, some good and some bad, and will face daily hardships, hunger, and danger.
They have finally reached the mountains, and the days have grown colder, and snow is expected at any time. They will not be able to finish the last leg of their journey until Spring, and must find an abandoned cabin or hostel to take shelter.
Will they succeed in their quest? Will they survive the hardships they endure? Will they find peace and security when they reach their destination?
